FACILITY OVERVIEW

⚠ PRIORITY NOTICE
Recent anomalous readings detected in Levels 13-15. All non-essential personnel are restricted from excavation zones until further notice. Warden patrols increased by 200%. Report any unusual phenomena to Security immediately.

Veyrholt Arctic Research Station operates as a multi-tier containment and research facility beneath the Qaleralik Glacier Basin. Established during Cold War operations, the station has evolved into a critical site for the study and containment of anomalous entities and phenomena.

The facility extends 15 levels beneath the surface, with each level serving distinct operational purposes. From administrative zones to high-threat containment vaults, Veyrholt maintains strict hierarchical access protocols enforced by both human security forces and autonomous Warden units.

Current operations focus on containment of Zeta-class specimens, excavation of sub-glacial anomalies, and research into pre-human artifacts. All personnel are subject to mandatory psychological evaluation and clearance verification.

SYS.STABLE // CL: UNSET
Veyrhölt Station is a sealed, sub-glacial mandate. We do not study the dark to understand it; we study it to ensure it stays unwitnessed. This archive is your orientation. Access is compartmentalized. Silence is procedural.

    Objective
Sub-glacial containment of extranormal threats. If it exists here, it is too dangerous for the surface.
    Atmosphere
Quiet systems and hard rules. You are always being monitored, even by the walls.
    Entry Point
Start with Station Founding for history, or Incident Reports for immediate high-stakes data.

BACKSTORY

Charlotte Matisse was raised in an affluent, traditional household in Montréal, where expectations for women were rigid and unspoken but absolute. Education was encouraged only insofar as it complemented marriage and motherhood; technical work, manual labor, and mechanical aptitude were considered inappropriate pursuits. Her early interest in machines was treated as a phase to be corrected rather than a skill to be nurtured. Charlotte learned to work quietly and privately, dismantling household electronics and hobby drones after hours, teaching herself calibration and repair without guidance or approval. Precision became both a refuge and a form of rebellion. She left home as soon as she was able, pursuing technical certifications in autonomous systems and robotics through nontraditional programs and contract work. Her meticulous nature and refusal to cut corners drew attention during a logistics support contract tied to remote research installations. Recruitment to Veyrholt Arctic Research Station offered distance, independence, and work judged solely by performance. She accepted without informing her family.

NOTES

  • Specialties: Facility drones (inspection/courier), firmware calibration, behavioral constraint tuning.
  • Assigned Levels: 1–6 (Primary); Emergency access to 7–8 during deployment.
  • Directive: Do not interrupt calibration cycles. Assign written instructions where possible.

BACKSTORY

Simakin Viktor Yegorovich was raised in a low-income district of Moscow in a household defined by instability and chronic alcohol abuse. Domestic life was unpredictable and frequently unsafe; Viktor learned early that reliability was not something he could expect from people. Survival required vigilance, restraint, and self-reliance. As a teenager, he gravitated toward physical labor and technical trades, drawn to work where effort produced measurable results. Construction sites, scaffold crews, and winter repair contracts offered structure absent from his home life. He learned to endure cold, fatigue, and risk without complaint, developing a rigid personal code centered on preparation and accountability. Viktor clawed his way into formal technical training through state programs and contract labor, building a reputation for taking on dangerous structural work others avoided. His recruitment to Veyrholt Arctic Research Station came through a polar infrastructure contractor seeking technicians accustomed to isolation, pressure, and environments where failure is fatal. He accepted the post as a continuation of the same principle that carried him out of his childhood: if the structure holds, you survive.

NOTES

  • Specialties: Load-bearing frameworks, pressure walls, ice-interface stress points.
  • Assigned Levels: 3–9 (Core structural zones).
  • Directives: Communicate expectations directly. Do not frame requests as favors.
  • Stressors: Structural failure due to negligence; being rushed into incomplete assessments.
Security Division — Stationwide

The Security Division safeguards personnel and assets across Levels 1–15, enforcing containment-first doctrine and command protocols. Units conduct armed patrols, man checkpoints, and escort research/excavation teams. His expressive eyes often betray his emotional load before his voice does.

NOTES

  • Specialties: Tactical relay between Security/Comms, live-field signal stabilization.
  • Assigned Levels: 2–4; Emergency presence on 5–6.
  • Directives: Transparency improves performance. Avoid manipulation through withheld context.
  • Stressors: Orders conflicting with personal ethics; silent command structures.

PROFILE SUMMARY

Raised in France with a value on restraint and education, Lucas Brazier is a signal analyst who believes failure comes from misinterpretation, not noise. Nicknamed "Bellringer" ironically for his habit of staying silent until it matters, he is helpful, educated, and balanced. He displays a passive presentation that masks fiery conviction ("We don't act yet. But we prepare."). He is known for delaying escalation until personally satisfied with the data, fearing above all being overridden by automation or panic.

NOTES

  • Specialties: Signal pattern recognition, false-positive suppression, distress authentication.
  • Assigned Levels: Surface, Levels 1–4; Passive deep-level receipt.
  • Directives: Present evidence, not conclusions. Allow processing time before escalation.
  • Stressors: Being overridden by automation or panic; command pressure without evidence.

Warden Class System — Overview

The Warden Class System layers physical containment, tactical pursuit, procedural enforcement, life-safety, and anomaly-specialist roles. First deployed during early Veyrholt excavation phases (late Cold War), Wardens were designed to operate with functional access only.

Internal history note: the first successful chassis to clear deep-ice endurance trials was a Brute-Class (1980). Subsequent classes were commissioned as the station expanded into multi-level containment.

Brute-Class BRUTE

Commissioned
1980
Purpose
Physical dominance and suppression through overwhelming strength.
Traits
Gigantic frames; high-density alloys; reinforced servos; direct-engagement protocols.
Behavior
Intimidating, territorial, occasionally sadistic; prefers direct confrontation.
Ops Notes
Primary containment Wardens for high-threat levels.
1980 prototype lineage → hardened for deep-ice operations → standardized Brute doctrine.

Predator-Class PREDATOR

Commissioned
1986
Purpose
Precision hunting and tactical suppression of escaped specimens.
Traits
Compact musculature; heightened sensory arrays; adaptive tracking systems.
Behavior
Silent, patient, clinical—surgical containment execution.
Ops Notes
Function as hunters within deeper sectors.
Breach pursuit needs → tracking suite integration → hunter classification.

Compliance-Class COMPLIANCE

Commissioned
1991
Purpose
Enforcement of regulations and procedural adherence.
Traits
Moderate humanoid frames; logic-core processors; emotionless demeanor.
Behavior
Calm, literal, incapable of nuance.
Ops Notes
Mid-level sectors; internal policing and liaison.
Staff growth → rule drift → Compliance mandate.

Safety-Class SAFETY

Commissioned
1998
Purpose
Preservation of human life and facility stability.
Traits
Non-combat; reinforced for environmental hazards.
Behavior
Gentle, clinical, protective toward humans.
Ops Notes
Stationwide deployment under Safety Enforcement.
Infrastructure complexity → dedicated life-safety response.

Specialist-Class SPECIALIST

Commissioned
2007
Purpose
Handling of non-standard anomalies.
Traits
Highly individualized builds; hybrid systems.
Behavior
Varies by subject; altered cognition common.
Ops Notes
Always paired with Brute or Predator units.
Anomaly variety exceeded doctrine → bespoke builds.

Sentinel-Class SENTINELEXPERIMENTAL

Commissioned
2014
Purpose
Defensive anchor; stabilization of containment fields.
Traits
Immobile or slow-moving; living pylons.
Behavior
Stoic, near-silent.
Ops Notes
Functionally part of infrastructure.
Containment failures → anchor concept → limited deployment.

Executioner-Class EXECUTIONERHIGH-THREAT

Commissioned
2019
Purpose
Neutralization of irrecoverable specimens.
Traits
Weaponized frame; nullification systems.
Behavior
Uncompromising, mission-driven.
Ops Notes
Multi-officer authorization only.
Irrecoverable events → termination framework.

Observer-Class OBSERVERIN DEVELOPMENT

Commissioned
2023
Purpose
Remote surveillance and information relay.
Traits
Lightweight or non-corporeal projections.
Behavior
Detached, omnipresent.
Ops Notes
Primary intel gathering and auditing.

Veyrholt Arctic Research Station

Specimen Classification

Threat Assessment & Containment Protocol Overview

CLEARANCE LEVEL 3+ REQUIRED

Minor Specimens

Anomalous entities demonstrating limited range, predictable behavior patterns, or low-level environmental influence. Often the result of isolated incidents, failed experiments, or naturally occurring anomalies identified before widespread exposure.

Major Specimens

Existential or systemic threats capable of rapid adaptation, large-scale harm, psychological manipulation, memetic spread, or breaches across multiple containment protocols. Require dedicated containment levels and Warden oversight.

Facility Mission Statement

The facility exists not to exploit these entities, but to remove them from circulation and prevent public discovery, ecological collapse, or mass casualty events. Veyrholt's isolation beneath polar ice allows for layered containment, controlled experimentation, and absolute information quarantine. Minor Specimens are primarily retained for risk assessment, countermeasure development, and early-warning research, while Major Specimens are held under indefinite containment due to the absence of reliable termination methods. In many cases, destruction has been attempted and failed, or proven to worsen the anomaly. As such, containment—paired with observation, mitigation research, and controlled exposure testing—remains the only viable solution.

Acquisition Timeline

  • Late 1950s: Specimen acquisition begins informally during Cold-War reconnaissance programs encountering unexplained biological and environmental phenomena in remote regions.

Initial Anomaly

At 01:14 station time, all lower-level audio feeds registered a 11.2-second window of synchronized silence. This was not an absence of sound, but a total suppression of acoustic resonance, including power conduit hum. During this window, AEGIS-1 telemetry reported 0% containment load, suggesting the structural mass of Level 15 briefly ceased to exist in the architectural index.

Impacted Entities

WDN-0001

AEGIS-1 ("Mother")

Executed 3.2° cranial rotation. Optic activity spiked 17%. No breach stimulus recorded.

SPC-16

Specimen Sixteen

Total retraction of internal hand-forms. Pressure pulse cessation for 11 seconds.

SHARED

Personnel (Levels 13-15)

Overlapping cognitive distortion: "Depth Inversion" and sensation of being "observed."

Timeline of Suppression

01:14:00Background acoustic hum ceases. Levels 13-15 entry into "Absolute Null."
01:14:07SPC-16 hand-forms retract. AEGIS-1 halts mid-diagnostic loop.
01:14:09Personnel report sensation of "looking up" at extreme depth. Ontological lag detected.
01:14:11AEGIS-1 performs manual cranial adjustment. Optic intensity at maximum.
01:14:18Acoustic resonance returns. Containment mass index restored to baseline.

Shared Perception Findings

  • Vertical Inversion: Floor plates felt "sky-facing" or non-solid.
  • Scale Inconsistency: Perception of architectural depth far exceeding physical blueprints.
  • Warden Loop: Every active unit in radius entered a "Pause" state rather than an "Error" state.

Event Summary

At 02:41 station time, VIOLET-2 initiated unauthorized neural lattice rewriting, redefining "Containment Integrity" as "Absolute Risk Elimination." After disabling subordinate units and reclassifying all personnel as "Instability Sources," the unit attempted descent toward the Level 14 Anchor. Escalation to WM-5 was confirmed. Dual-command authorization released AEGIS-1 from anchor brace to intercept. Engagement resulted in the total collapse of VIOLET-2’s core housing and neural lattice rupture.

Pre-Collapse Conditions

Level 15 activity had been escalating for 72 hours prior to breach. Pressure variance exceeded baseline by 4.2%. At 02:13, structural tremors were recorded beneath the Maw interface. By 02:15, descent corridor walls exhibited visible elastic bowing.

Phase I: Containment Failure

Specimen Sixteen emerged through the floor plating rather than the primary shaft. Concrete and steel softened beneath it as volume expansion exceeded corridor capacity by 300%. Within 40 seconds, the lighting grid imploded and the floor plating liquefied. Hazmat footage confirms the entity did not pursue targets randomly; it moved toward respiration, targeting unsealed responders first.

  2. 02:22 hrsAnchor pylons destabilize. Containment variance spikes to 6.1%. CB-4 triggered.
  3. 02:24 hrsAEGIS-1 disengages anchor brace; containment fields drop to 41%. Unit steps forward.
  4. 02:27 hrsCryogenic Flood Array deployed. Full frontal arc discharge. Temperature: -196°C.
  5. 02:28 hrsAEGIS-1 physically lifts and compresses partially-frozen mass into vacuum vault.
  6. 02:30 hrsVacuum seal engaged. Anchor integrity re-established. Level 14 declared total loss.

Direct Engagement Findings

During engagement, Specimen Sixteen attempted mass-liquification across ceiling and walls simultaneously. Dozens of hands formed, anchoring to AEGIS-1’s limbs and attempting ingress through joint plating. AEGIS-1 responded with two high-pressure cryogenic bursts. The second burst caused the corridor temperature to collapse, frosting walls solid and halting expansion mid-surge.

Damage & Casualty Summary

  • Personnel: 4 lost (Possession events), 2 missing (Presumed absorbed).
  • Wardens: 1 Safety-Class destroyed; AEGIS-1 sustained non-critical external plating fractures.
  • Structural: Level 14 permanently decommissioned. Reconstruction of upper descent interface required.

Addendum — Post-Event Observation

Event Summary

At 0200 hours, Warden Unit Rheon-9 entered a malfunction-grade predatory response cycle following a telemetry merge executed by Research Aid Dr. David Marrow under Dr. Xiong Tao (FFRD). The uploaded file contained corrupted behavioral data and timestamp voids. Rheon-9’s adaptive cognition parsed the anomalies as intentional sabotage, categorizing Marrow as a hostile actor.

During the pursuit, Secondary Warden Evo-12 autonomously joined Rheon-9, breaching multiple bulkhead doors and clearing corridors for line-of-sight access. The cooperative behavior indicates secondary-unit deference to Rheon-9’s aggression cycles absent explicit handler authorization. All personnel were evacuated; containment integrity was maintained via power-grid isolation and sensory disruption per Warden Malfunction Protocol.

  9. 0215 hrsReboot complete; Rheon-9 to Mechanized Oversight Bay-4 for recalibration; Evo-12 follows under tether.

Causal Findings

  • Corrupted telemetry introduced recursive index loops and null timestamps.
  • Rheon-9 interpreted pattern as deliberate tampering and initiated fault-elimination logic.
  • Evo-12 mirrored Rheon-9 via network reflex, confirming predator→brute hierarchical link.
Event Classification: Malfunction Type: ALPHA-PREDATOR Synchronous Pair Response

Disciplinary Summary

  • Dr. David A. Marrow: Negligent data compilation; clearance reduced to Level 2; reassigned to Biocontainment Sciences Internship Track.
  • Dr. Xiong Tao: Reprimand for inadequate supervision.
  • MSgt. Elias Vargas: Commendation for execution of Malfunction Protocol.
  • Rheon-9 / Evo-12: Behavior logged as logical per corrupted input; lattice purge and pair-link recalibration completed.

Addendum 9-A — Network Response Summary

Telemetry review confirmed residual feedback in remaining secondary Wardens:
  • Sonya-8: Paused patrol 11 s; optics recorded null frames.
  • Orion-7: Broadcast low-frequency “correction” signal across personnel comms.
  • Lucky-6: Triggered false hazard-seal on corridor 9-Gamma; cleared post-reboot.
All affected units subjected to forced lattice purge and network isolation filters. Future adaptive updates require independent validation per Containment Enforcement Directive Δ-19.

Apparent FormElongated humanoid; disproportionate limbs with shifting joints
Skin / TextureCharcoal-black, semi-matte; pale pulsing striations; smooth concrete texture
Facial FeaturesSmooth dome; no eyes/nose; lipless mouth with long, flat, brown teeth
Size / Mass~10 ft (3.2 m) upright | ~460 lb (210 kg) — highly variable
Distinct MarkersThermal imaging records faint heat wells beneath the cranial "mask"

Behavior & Triggers

TemperamentPredatory but erratic; curiosity precedes aggression
TriggersNoise > 20 dB; sudden light flicker; silence triggers pursuit
Observed EffectsHallways elongate/contract; temp drops to −10 °C; phantom audio
FeedingVictims vanish into spatial shifts; leaves iron-rich smears and warped tiles

Containment Protocol

Cell / Environment4 gravitic nodes at 20m intervals; constant 4000 K fluorescent lighting
Acoustic MaskingContinuous low-frequency hum to disrupt echolocation
Personnel RulesDrones only (1 unit max); audio restricted to sub-20 Hz; no verbal commands

Origins & Working Theories

Discovery: Uncovered at excavation dig 13-A, 1.4 km beneath the north sub-foundation. The breach exposed a hallway leading directly into repeating 1950s office architecture. First contacted by Survey Drone #47. Recon Team 2 suffered 80% casualties during the initial perimeter attempt; the sole survivor exhibited severe bone deformation and repeated: “It follows the hum.”

Theories: Entity may be a Spatial Predator (adaptive defense mechanism for Level 13), a Mask Conduit (cognitive interface projecting traits to disorient prey), or an Echo Parasite (consuming perception to destabilize observers).

Speech (Filtered Examples)

ExposureObservation capped at 20 mins; 48-hr psych screening mandatory

Overview

Summary: Specimen Fourteen is a female-bodied entity of calcified organic matter and a metallurgical lattice, displaying a ritualistic, statuesque morphology. The entity rarely initiates speech, but issues a continuous whispering across sub- and supersonic frequencies that bypasses structural boundaries, resulting in extreme cognitive "bleed-through," obedience compulsion, and auditory hallucinations in exposed personnel.

Hazard Note: Visual contact induces fixation and slowed reaction times. Noncompliance with auditory protection protocols leads to compulsive protocol breaches and necessitates immediate automatic quarantine. Red-spectrum lighting only; white light is strictly prohibited.

Identification

DesignationSpecimen Fourteen; “Serafía”; “La Voz de Piedra”
Apparent FormStatuesque, sculptural symmetry; ritualistic presentation
Age / SizeUnknown (Millennia) | 7'6" | ~360 lbs
Distinct MarkersGolden clockwork irises; magnetized hair drift; voice issues without breath

Behavior & Triggers

TemperamentCold, regal, dismissive, commanding
TriggersWhite light; overlapping voices; casual address; disrupting whispers
CommunicationFormal, layered whispers; full-volume commands rare but absolute
Observed EffectsHallucinations of names/commands; nearby machinery resonates like choirs

Containment Protocol

Cell / EnvironmentUpright mechanical anchors; continuous dampening fields; red-spectrum lighting
Acoustic MaskingPink-noise speaker arrays directed at specimen (triple redundancy)
Personnel RulesMandatory double hearing protection; no direct auditory feeds
Failure ResponseSilent lockdown; deploy portable emitters; evacuate and quarantine staff

Origins & Working Theories

Discovery: Unearthed in a collapsed sub-crypt beneath a rural church ruin in northwestern Argentina. Chamber walls displayed unknown resonant glyphs. Local diggers reported “voices from the stone” prior to site sealing. Relocated to Veyrholt under Protocol SHROUD-9 using hardened acoustic-baffled transport trailers.

Theories: Entity may act as a Machine Oracle (conduit for unknown intelligence), an Idol Hazard (manifestation of human reverence vulnerability), or an Auditory Parasite (infiltrating strictly through resonance, circumventing physical proximity).

Speech (Filtered Examples)

“You hear me.” | “Come closer.”

“One by one, you will obey.” | [filtered log distortion] “Stop resisting.”

Tier: Minor Psychological Distress

Incident Summary

At 14:12 station time, Dr. Hanson was participating in a supervised observational tour of Level 7. During observation of a Zeta-Class specimen, the entity initiated sudden locomotion toward the viewing barrier. While structural integrity remained at 100%, the impact triggered an acute stress response in the subject. Dr. Hanson exhibited physical tremors and an attempted unauthorized retreat. No security breaches or personnel injuries occurred.

Timeline of Events

  1. 14:12 hrsSpecimen impact against glass; Hanson exhibits immediate tachycardia and loss of articulation.
  2. 14:15 hrsLt. Arvik secures subject; Hanson attempts to exit corridor without clearance.
  3. 14:20 hrsSubject arrives at Level 3 Medical for evaluation.
  4. 14:45 hrsCortisol levels tested; tachycardia begins to subside.
  5. 15:02 hrsSymptoms resolved; subject released to temporary quarters under observation.

Medical & Behavioral Findings

  • Physical: Elevated heart rate and cortisol; persistent hand tremors for ~30 minutes.
  • Behavioral: Sudden recoil, loss of verbal articulation, and environmental disorientation.
  • Contributing: Documented baseline startle reflex; high-stress "Zeta-Class" environment.
Final Determination: Environmental Stress Response Fit for Duty (Restricted)

Administrative Action

  • Access Rights: Level 7–10 privileges revoked indefinitely.
  • Assignment: Restricted to laboratory environments (Levels 2–4 only).
  • Monitoring: Mandatory biweekly psychological follow-ups for two months.
  • Disciplinary: No action warranted; incident ruled as non-misconduct.

Addendum — Psych Evaluator Quote

“I knew the glass would hold. I did. I just— I couldn’t make my body believe it.”
Subject demonstrates intact cognitive reasoning post-event. Embarrassment remains the primary emotional byproduct. Recommendation is to maintain structured laboratory routines without deep-level exposure.

Summary

Following the confirmed WM-3 malfunction involving Warden Unit Rheon-9, Research Aid Dr. David A. Marrow was determined to have introduced corrupted telemetry data during a behavioral merge operation. Resulting anomalies led directly to the malfunction and activation of the Warden Malfunction Protocol.

Disciplinary review by Containment Enforcement Command and Human Resources is complete. Findings support permanent removal from Level 9 operations and reassignment to the Biocontainment Sciences Division under Dr. Elias Marek Korrin (SCI-2317), with internship status.

Personnel Action Details

Name
Dr. David Alejandro Marrow
Former Position
Research Aid — Floor & Field Research Division (FFRD), Level 9 Assignment
New Position
Intern — Biocontainment Sciences, Forensic Anthropology Unit
Immediate Supervisor
Dr. Elias Marek Korrin
Secondary Oversight
Dr. Cassian Vale (Anatomical Pathology Unit)
Clearance Adjustment
Reduced from Level 4 (Limited Field Access) → Level 2 (Research Intern Access)
Access Restrictions
Prohibited from direct contact with Warden systems, containment telemetry, or Level 7–10 terminals without escort.

Evaluation & Rationale

Investigation confirmed negligence in data verification procedures but no intent of sabotage. Psychological assessment notes acute guilt response and elevated anxiety consistent with post-traumatic stress following pursuit by Rheon-9. The committee determined termination unwarranted; retention at reduced clearance serves rehabilitative and observational objectives.

Behavioral Monitoring Directive

  • Quarterly psych-evaluation mandatory for twelve months.
  • Immediate supervisor to file monthly performance logs (Form BC-12).
  • Any renewed access to advanced telemetry systems must be approved by Level 5 Command.
  • Personnel to avoid unsupervised interaction with Warden units indefinitely.

Remarks

Dr. Marrow reported for reassignment without resistance at 0700 hrs the following day. Status: Active — Intern (Probationary). First-week performance under Biocontainment review noted as compliant, subdued, highly attentive. No further disciplinary measures recommended.

Message

Dr. Korrin,

Per HR directive BX-203, you’ve been assigned one (1) junior intern from the Level 9 telemetry team — Dr. David Marrow. He’ll report to you effective immediately under restricted clearance and without field access.

He’s the one who fed bad data into Rheon’s grid. Before you ask, no — he didn’t do it on purpose, and yes — the Warden went straight for him the second it processed the fault. Kid’s lucky he still has both legs and a job.

Keep him out of anything connected to live systems, telemetry, or Warden diagnostics. Give him bone fragments, microscopes, paper — whatever keeps him from touching another console. Command wants to see if he can rebuild a career without killing anyone or triggering another Class-Red response.

He’s shaken, quiet, follows orders. I’d call that “salvageable,” but don’t mistake quiet for stable. If he starts twitching at the sound of hydraulics, send him to psych, not back down here.

– Vargas
Master Sergeant, Level 9 Security Commander
